Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have a surprising number of things in common. They both rank among the wealthiest people in the world, of course. Each man has given significantly to charity. Both play bridge (often against each other). Buffett and Gates also read a lot.

The pair first met in 1959 and three years later Munger began working in money management, the letter notes. In 1978, Munger joined Berkshire Hathaway as vice-chairman and sat by Buffett’s side, quick with a quip or a sage piece of advice.

S hareholders have descended on Omaha, Neb., for Berkshire Hathaway’s annual gathering, gathering at hotels, restaurants, and ultimately the CHI Health Center where the meeting itself will kick off Saturday morning. They’ll hear from Warren Buffett himself, company CEO and, for many, investing mentor.
